Rebecca’s stunning steel pieces (listed in the order pictured above), “Duet”, “Stretched Out”, and “Double House”, and all in view now at the gallery as part of our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through this Sunday, February 22nd.

A bit about the artist:
Rebecca Welz’s sculptures have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States, including the June Kelly Gallery and the Grace Borgenicht Gallery in New York City; the Oakland Museum in California; the Heckscher Museum in Huntington, New York; the Butters Gallery in Portland, Oregon; the SciArt Center in Easton, Pennsylvania; the Cherrystone Gallery in Wellfleet, Massachusetts; and Sculpturesite Gallery, San Francisco. In addition, her work is in private and corporate collections, including those of Goldman Sachs, Pfizer, Merck, Prudential Life Insurance Corporation, Sabre Corporation, and the William Kaufman Corporation.

Artist Spotlight: Erik Waterkotte, @erikwaterkotte

Erik Waterkotte’s pieces (listed in order shown above), “Untitled Memento Mori II”, “Venerate”, and “Untitled Memento Mori IV” are on view at the gallery as part of our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through this Sunday, February 22nd.

A statement from the artist:
“The works in this exhibition employ handmade paper and print in allegory of mortality. In the Untitled Memento Mori series, images of Memorial Statues are screen printed in layers of pigmented paper pulp. In Venerate layers of handmade translucent flax paper appear like skin, overlapping laser cut images of human limbs with scorched images of tree limbs. Whether religious, mythological, philosophical, or theoretical, my artwork is inspired by the narratives human beings have created throughout history to explain existence and consciousness. Motivated by ecological grief, these works attempt to dismantle anthropocentric narratives by integrating the archetypal with the ecological in a memento mori of handmade paper, print, and mixed-media. In my recent work, found and foraged materials intersect on layers of recycled handmade paper, combining print, photography, and drawing with raw, often symbolic materials. I layer abstract and representational forms together to examine the intersection between inherited belief, the environment, and Phenomenology.”

Artist Spotlight: Krista Voto, @kristavotoart

Krista’s stunning, interactive installation, titled “The Validity of the Eggless Nest”, is on view at the gallery as part of our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through Sunday, February 22nd.

Krista Voto is an interdisciplinary artist and professor based in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally from New Jersey, she earned her BA in Visual Art and an Art Education degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey before completing her MFA in Sculpture at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She is currently a Professor of Art at the University of West Georgia.

Working across sculpture, installation, and textiles, Voto’s practice integrates materials ranging from metals to fabrics, often employing sewing and weaving techniques.

Artist Spotlight: Judi Tavill, @juditavillart

Judi’s work, (listed in order as pictured above), “Around”, “Passages”, and “Swoon”, are on view at the gallery as part of our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, currently on view through March 22nd.

A powerful statement from the artist herself about her stunning work in this exhibition:
“My three works in “In the Shadows” explore how light and dark interact across dimensional form and drawn surface to create a dialogue between what’s tangible and what’s ephemeral. Each piece features intricate graphite networks applied over white-painted ceramic forms - a “cold finish” technique that allows me to build complexity through layers of drawing rather than traditional glazing. The shadows cast by these biomorphic sculptures aren’t incidental; they’re essential to how the work functions. As curvilinear forms twist and loop through space, their graphite networks create dense areas of darkness that mirror and extend the physical shadows on the wall behind them. This creates a doubling effect where drawn shadow and cast shadow converse and embody the entanglement I’m always chasing: the ways systems connect, overlap, and become inseparable. I build these pieces intuitively, allowing the clay to guide me toward forms that feel both familiar and alien. The graphite comes last, wrapping around and through the shapes like neural pathways or root systems searching for connection. In this show’s context, I’m particularly interested in how the sculptures activate the negative space around them. Here, shadow becomes a medium itself, completing the visual conversation between light, form, and surface.”

Working with Kirti has been so special for us here at RAM because not only is she incredible talented, but she is also a Summit local and a huge part of the creative community here in town. We have loved having the opportunity to showcase her stunning ceramic pieces and are so proud to have her as a part of the amazing network of local artists we’re building who have all become an integral part of the RAM family.

Kirti Sheoran is a ceramic artist and founder of Kirti Sheoran Studio, a boutique ceramics practice rooted in thoughtful design and handcrafted technique. After 18 years in the fast-paced world of finance, Kirti made a bold shift — trading spreadsheets for sculpting tools and fully embracing her passion for clay.

Her journey began in January 2020, sparking from an enduring love for ceramics and a desire to explore its expressive possibilities. Kirti spent four years studying clay at New Jersey’s Visual Arts Center, honing her craft before launching her studio practice.

From her Summit, NJ studio, she handcrafts every piece — from functional dinnerware to sculptural centerpieces — with intention, character, and personality. Each creation reflects her belief that art belongs on the table as much as it does on the wall.

Kirti’s work is known for its organic forms, expressive textures, and meticulous detail. Her functional ceramics are inspired by her love for food and hosting, while her one-of-a-kind centerpieces draw from travel and lived experience.

Artist Spotlight: Nicholas Ruth, @nicholashruth

Ruth’s pieces (in order as pictured above) “”This Way I”, “This Way II”, “This Way III”, “South Main, Four”, “South Main”, and “South Main, Ten” are all featured in our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through February 22nd.

Nicholas H. Ruth is a Professor of Art at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, in New York. Ruth received a BA from Pomona College, and earned an MFA in Painting from the Meadow’s School of Art at Southern Methodist University. His work has been included in more than 150 exhibitions nationally and internationally, and is in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, the Rockwell Museum, the Memorial Art Gallery, and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.

This feature is special to us, because Nicholas Ruth is not only an incredible artist, but he’s also the former professor and now friend and colleague of our co-curator for this exhibition and RAM associate, @brit_coburn

Brit credits much of her success as a creative to her time at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the incredible professors she had the opportunity to learn from, Nicholas Ruth being one of them! We’re so excited to be a part of this full circle moment for them, and you can read more about their professor/student turned colleague relationship in the article, “Teaching the Teacher”, written by HWS alum, Tony Reid (link in bio!)

Artist Spotlight: Linda Jacobs, @ljacobs100

Linda Jacobs has been photographing cityscapes, abstract compositions and still lifes for over 20 years, building on her background in design and architecture. Her undergraduate degree was in Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University, and she studied photography at the International Center for Photography and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. She continues to expand her artistic practice through photographic workshops and international travel. A native of White Plains, New York, Linda currently resides in Maplewood, New Jersey.

Linda is involved in the photography community as an artist member of Soho Photo Gallery, Professional Women Photographers (PWP), American Photographic Artists (APA), and Studio Montclair. She has exhibited at the Griffin Museum, Monmouth Museum, Montclair Art Museum, and internationally at IndustrieMuseum Chemnitz in Germany, and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her special projects include: “City Stories”, “Looking at Art: The Experience of Interaction”, and “Photograms: The Alchemy of Glass”.

Artist Spotlight: Meg Hitchcock, @meghitchcockartist

Hitchcock’s pieces (in order as pictured above in the first three photos), ”Icon with the Orange Hose”, “Icon No. 9” and “Icon No. 14”, are all featured in our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through February 22nd.

Meg Hitchcock is a New York-based painter, writer, and curator. She is a 2024 Pollock-Krasner Grant recipient and a 2023 Gottlieb Foundation Grant recipient. She received a BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and studied classical painting in Florence, Italy. Her work with paint and text is an expression of her lifelong interest in religion, psychology, and literature. Hitchcock’s work has been shown nationally and internationally and has been included in shows at MASS MoCA, Currier Museum of Art, CODA Museum (Netherlands), Virginia MOCA, and Crystal Bridges Museum, where she was included in State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now. Her work has been reviewed in numerous publications, including Art in America, ArtCritical, The New Criterion, Huffington Post, and Hyperallergic. Her work is represented by galleries in New York and Virginia, and she recently curated a show at Columbia University, CONTEXT: Art, Books, & Freedom, a show of 15 artists working with text and books, on view through May 2026.

Artist Spotlight: Kate Dodd, @katedoddstudio

Dodd’s pieces (in order as pictured above), “Watershed”, “Rise and Fall”, and “Border Patrol” are all featured in our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through February 22nd.

Kate Dodd received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 1983 and her MFA from Columbia University in 1990. Originally from the Bay Area, she now lives in New Jersey while maintaining strong creative ties on both coasts. Dodd creates temporary and permanent site-specific installations that explore transformation, materiality, and the hidden patterns embedded in human habits.

Her work has been exhibited nationally in museums, galleries, and colleges. She received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 2020 and has completed numerous artist residencies, including MacDowell and multiple school-based residencies throughout the tri-state area.

Dodd has been commissioned to create installations for five NJ Transit stations, as well as projects for Summit Public Arts, the Redwood City Public Library Children’s Room, and Rowan University. She is currently developing new commissions for The College of New Jersey and a private residential complex in Jersey City. In 2026, she will present a solo site-specific installation at the Montclair Art Museum.

Kate Conlon’s work usually begins with an earnest attempt to figure something out and invariably ends in a mess of paradox, incongruence, and doubt.

She is a founding director of Limited Time Engagement Press and a Professor of the Practice in Print at SMFA at Tufts University.

New year, new show…

We’re starting 2026 off with a bang with our first featured exhibition: “In the Shadow”

Within art we don’t see shadows as an absence, but rather, a presence. They serve as extensions of form and silent collaborators in composition. For many, the power of lighting and the beauty of shadows are often overlooked within individual creative practices. It isn’t until after a work is completed and installed that many artists recognize how strong shadows can elevate the way different artwork is viewed and experienced. “In the Shadow” brings together artists who utilize shadows intentionally throughout their creative process. Existing as an integral part of the work rather than as a byproduct, the shadows become an active part of the overall composition. Through a variety of media, this exhibition highlights how light and shadows shape perception, define space, and complete the visual narrative. Join us at RAM to explore the depths of shadows and their ability to transform the way artwork is experienced.

How can art be a catalyst for community change?

Here at RAM, we are committed to utilizing art as a platform for community outreach and support. So, for each new show, we donate a percentage of gallery proceeds to a different featured non-profit organization.

For our current group exhibition, “Minis”, we wanted to contribute to a local organization that we felt was doing incredible work to support individuals and family’s in need this holiday season. Which is why we selected the Community Food Bank of New Jersey ( @cfbnj ) as our featured non-profit organization for our final show of 2025.

Drop by the gallery now through December 21st to check out the gorgeous work on view, purchase an affordable work for your own collection or for a loved one, and be a part of contributing to an incredible organization that works tirelessly to provide food for millions of people in need every year (especially during the holiday season!)
