Meghan, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

The concept for RAM Gallery emerged from numerous visits to New York City, where I immersed myself in the dynamic art scene. It was during these experiences that I was particularly captivated by the perseverance of street artists showcasing their creations. Engaging with these artists and learning about their journeys added a profound layer of meaning to their art.

Inspired by these encounters, we envisioned a gallery that not only showcased artwork but also prioritized the artists themselves. Our goal was to provide a platform for artists to exhibit their work to art enthusiasts and collectors. Central to our mission is the idea of connecting artists directly with their audience. We aim to create an environment where artists actively participate in events, whether through live painting sessions, sculpting demonstrations, sketching workshops, or discussing their creative processes.

This level of artist engagement is designed to foster a unique and intimate experience for both the artist and the buyer, enriching the art-buying process with personal connections and insights.

Meghan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick, NJ. My passion for art blossomed during my time there, where I immersed myself in various forms of art and found inspiration in visits to galleries, museums, and public art spaces. Interacting with artists of diverse backgrounds during these experiences not only fueled my own artistic journey but also provided deep, meaningful connections similar to therapeutic conversations that sparked new ideas and motivations for my art.

Driven by a desire to offer art enthusiasts transformative interactions like the ones that shaped my artistic path, I founded RAM Gallery. At RAM Gallery, artists are given a platform for a six-week solo show, starting with an exclusive Industry Preview attended by interior designers, realtors, architects, and art professionals. The show kicks off with an opening reception where artists engage with potential buyers, showcasing their craft through live demonstrations. This event, which has always been a highlight, was the founding inspiration behind the gallery.

Throughout the exhibition period, we curate a range of events, including pop-up shops, artist talks, and private gatherings, providing our clients with multiple opportunities to connect with our artists, understand their inspirations, and delve into their aspirations. As a unique experience, we also offer select collectors the chance for a studio visit, allowing them to step into the intimate creative space of the artists, gaining a profound insight into their creative processes and physical surroundings.

By fostering these rich experiences and connections, RAM Gallery stands out as a space where art is not just displayed, but where artists and art lovers come together to engage, learn, and be inspired.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

My business partner happens to be my husband. Coming from diverse professional backgrounds—he in finance and myself in the arts and business administration—our shared passion for the arts and creativity served as the driving force behind our decision to venture into opening an Art Gallery together. Our complementary skills and mutual love for artistic expression have been instrumental in shaping our collaborative journey in the art world.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

The opening of the art gallery marked a significant pivot in my journey. I initially embarked on my career in film and video production, starting in the corporate realm and later transitioning to freelance work on various media projects out west, including feature films, television shows, commercials, and music videos. Upon returning to the East Coast, I reconnected with the corporate sector, delving into graphic design and collaborating with a team to craft user interfaces for educational iPad apps.

The decision to pause my career and dedicate myself to raising my three children at home was a pivotal moment. Despite stepping away from the professional realm, my passion for the arts remained strong as my family and I continued to immerse ourselves in the vibrant art scenes of NYC, frequenting galleries, museums, festivals, and public art installations.

As my children grew older, the desire to re-enter the workforce grew, leading me to seek a meaningful path that resonated with both my personal fulfillment and family dynamics. The idea of establishing an art gallery began to take shape in early 2023, culminating in the realization of our vision by the end of the year with our inaugural show. Throughout our journey, especially in the first year, we have embraced learning, pivoting, and adapting to the market dynamics and the valuable lessons offered by the industry.
